13-year-old entrepreneur starts business to buy Tesla 'dream car'
Jake Kenny 17:43, Feb 11 2022...A self-driven 13-year-old says the key to saving money is simple – “hard work”. Hamish Sutherland, or Handy Hamish as he’s become known around Mission Bay in Auckland, started his own business in December mowing lawns, cleaning cars, sweeping and water blasting driveways.
His goal is to buy himself his “dream car” – an as-yet unrevealed Tesla, sometimes referred to as the “Model 2”, which is expected to be worth an estimated NZ$35,000. Tesla has not yet provided details about its much-anticipated compact car, and when it will reveal it is unknown.
For the past two years he has invested any money he received for birthdays or through work for neighbours into a share portfolio and has already saved $10,000. The young entrepreneur is often seen around the neighbourhood washing cars, . Click here Stuff-news

Former Waikato Uni student takes fight over failing thesis to Supreme Court
Auckland reporter 05:00, Feb 16 2022...A woman has failed in an attempt to appeal to the Supreme Court to have her master’s thesis accepted. It is just the latest judicial knock for Kelly Alexandra Roe, who has previously tried to appeal to the country’s highest court to gain admission to Auckland University’s medical school.
She has also pursued legal action against Auckland District Health Board, the New Zealand Vice-Chancellors Committee, and the University of Otago. None of those bids were successful.
Roe enrolled in Waikato University’s one-year master of philosophy degree in 2018, according to court documents. Her aim was to complete the degree as a pathway to enrolling in medical school. She alleged the university refused to properly examine her thesis and sought $324,000 in damages, . Click Here Stuff-news

Chinese teen snowboard star Su adds 'insane' Olympic gold to silver
AFP 15/02/2022...China's 17-year-old Su Yiming became the host nation's newest hero on Tuesday after adding snowboard Big Air gold to the controversial silver he won last week at the Beijing Olympics.
The teenager scorched to the Big Air title with a runaway score of 182.50 to win his second medal at the Games, having been unlucky to only come away with silver in last week's slopestyle. Su took a dominant gold ahead of Norway's Mons Roisland, on 171.75, with Canada's Max Parrot -- the slopestyle winner -- taking bronze with 170.25.
Su has competed in just six World Cup events but has already become the first men's snowboarding Olympic medallist in China's history. This feels insane, it's something I've never experienced before... I can't believe I got this gold," said Su. I trained every day for the past four years.. Click here AFP

Tighter lending among factors slowing house price growth - REINZ
15/02/2022...The rate of house price growth is slowing, as tighter lending limits and changes to credit rules prevent some buyers from getting into the market. The Real Estate Institute's (REINZ) house price index, which measures the changing value of property in the market, rose 19.9 percent in the year ended January to 4164.
However, this was a 1.5 percent decrease from December and the index was down 2.6 percent from its peak in November. The national median house decreased 2.2 percent month-on-month but is still 20.5 percent higher than a year ago at $880,000. In seasonally adjusted terms, prices rose 1.4 percent.
The number of properties sold in January fell 28.6 percent when compared with the same month a year ago. In seasonally adjusted terms, sales were down 5.3 percent. At the same time, the number of properties available for sale increased 28.5 percent to 19,897, as higher values enticed more people to sell. Click here RNZ news

Temuera Morrison honoured with kauri carving of his Star Wars character
Kate Rodger 15/02/2022...New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison has been catapulted back into the Star Wars universe and onto Disney Plus as the much-loved cult favourite Boba Fett. And on his home turf in Rotorua, Morrison and his Boba Fett have been celebrated in a very special way.
The legion of Boba Fett fans have quite simply lost their collective minds. Boba was back, and so was Morrison in his own Disney Plus show. Morrison brings such mana to Boba by channelling the power of his own Māori ancestry.
"Then of course putting on the costume, well that's a most powerful feeling as well. You've just got to wear the costume and you just start feeling powerful, feeling like the Bounty Hunter," he says. Now he has been honoured in his hometown with an iconic Boba Fett helmet carved from native kauri - a taonga for Morrison. Click here News-hub

Olympics-Biathlon-Lagreid ecstatic as Christiansen strikes gold for Norway
By Philip O'Connor 15/02/2022..ZHANGJIAKOU, China (Reuters) - When Sturla Holm Lagreid handed over to Tarjei Boe in Tuesday's Olympic biathlon relay he was sure Norway's hopes of gold were gone, but a collapse by Eduard Latypov and a stunning final leg by Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen delivered a stunning victory.
"I was so pumped up when he left the shooting, I was screaming with all I had because it was such an incredible moment for me, to watch him go out there in the lead and the secure the gold," an elated Lagreid told Reuters.
There was little to suggest a Norwegian win when Lagreid handed over to the elder Boe brother in seventh place, more than 40 seconds behind the ROC team, but Tarjei and his brother Johannes battled back to get close enough for Christiansen to exploit Latypov's wayward shooting. Click here Reuter

Rental property managers would be licensed under government proposal
16/02/2022...Associate Minister for Housing Poto Williams this morning released a discussion document, seeking feedback on proposals to have property managers comply with a code of conduct. Labour committed to the move in its 2020 election manifesto.
The document includes several options for regulating property managers, though it would not apply to landlords who own a property as they are already subject to regulation under the Residential Tenancies Act.
It noted there are no regulations that apply to all residential property managers, and groups including property managers themselves had pointed out the risks that posed "to property owners and tenants and to the reputation of residential property managers. The document estimated up to 7881 property managers were operating in New Zealand, responsible for about 42 percent of rental residences, . Click here RNZ news
